We Believe There is Tremendous benefit for

Children to Participate in Performances

Major Annual Production

We encourage student participation in our major ballet productions. The experience includes working with state, national and international professional artists. Students discover the excitement and enjoyment of working in a professional environment.

In addition to normal class hours students will be required to attend one Sunday rehearsal of 1.5 hours duration, one theatre rehearsal of 1.5 hours and one performance. Costumes are hired at minimal cost to the student to alleviate stress and expense for the parents.

Participation forms are administered early in third term.

We Believe Parents Need Evaluation

of Their Childs Progress & Ability

Parents Day

Parents are invited to watch their child's lesson at the usual class time twice per year. A small student performance of the work studied during the term will be given for parents. Parents will be notified of dates and times through regular newsletters.

Pre- Primary and Grade One students will receive a certificate of achievement at the conclusion of the years’ study.

Class Assessments

From Grade Two through to Senior Grades, students receive an annual written report with a certificate of achievement. The assessments are held in a class with their teacher and with their class peers. The students receive a graded a certificate and written report. It is highly recommended that students participate in the class assessments. There is a small charge to cover the costs of the class assessments which are held at the end of third term.

Stage Performance Examinations

The Stage Performance Examination of the Youth Ballet WA is open to Level 2 students from Grade 3 through to seniors. Students perform a prepared dance in couples on stage before a panel of professional dance artists. These exams are generally held in November. The examinations are open to the public and participating students receive a report and a certificate. It is highly recommended that eligible students take part in this exam. Enrolment forms for these assessments will be distributed during second term.

We Believe Students Need to be

Encouraged to Lead a Healthy Lifestyle

and to Develop Good Manners & Personal Grooming

Students at the Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre are encouraged to eat healthily and take adequate rest and play. Annual lectures for parents and students on nutrition and health are given by the Youth Ballet WA and advertised throughout the centre.

Good manners are encouraged. All students begin and end their classes with a curtsey to their teachers. Positive social interaction and communication is encouraged throughout the class with students working in couples, groups or as leaders. Rudeness or bad behaviour by any student is not acceptable.

Grooming plays an important part in ballet and performance. The centre encourages correct grooming from the beginning of ballet training. Students are expected to come to class wearing correct uniform with hair in a bun, covered by a hair net, short hair can be held off the face with a headband. No jewellery or nail polish is to be worn. Ballet shoes are to be clean and tied correctly.

Please see the instructional videos below for information on how to tie your ballet shoes and sew the ribbons on. This information applies to both Ballet and Pointe shoes.
